Vietnam Visa for Indians: E-Visa Step by Step

Yes, Indians need a visa for Vietnam. The easiest option is the Vietnam e-visa: you apply online, pay US$25 (about ₹2,100) for a single entry, and usually get it in 3 working days. It lets you stay up to 90 days.
Vietnam is now one of the most popular international trips for Indian travellers, with direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The good news is that the visa is simple if you apply on the right website with the right photo. This guide covers the fees, the documents, each step of the online form, and the mistakes that get Indian applications delayed or rejected.

Vietnam e-visa for Indians at a glance
Single-entry e-visa: US$25 (about ₹2,100); one entry, stay up to 90 days.
Multiple-entry e-visa: US$50 (about ₹4,200); unlimited entries, stay up to 90 days.
Processing time: 3 working days; allow up to 7 in peak season.
Where to apply: only on the official portal, evisa.gov.vn.
Refund if rejected: none, for either type.
Which one should you choose? Pick single entry for a normal Vietnam holiday. Choose multiple entry only if you will leave and come back, for example a Vietnam–Cambodia trip that returns through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam revised some visa fees in 2026, so check the amount shown on the portal before you pay.

You do not need a bank statement, ITR or flight tickets for the e-visa application. Carry a return ticket anyway, since airlines and immigration may ask for it.
How to apply for a Vietnam e-visa online: step by step
Open the official portal. Go to evisa.gov.vn (the alternate official address is thithucdientu.gov.vn). Choose the option for foreigners applying from outside Vietnam.
Upload your photo and passport scan. The portal reads your passport details from the scan. Check that the photo is clear before moving on.
Fill in your personal and passport details. Type your name exactly as printed in the passport, including the order of first name and surname. Leave fields blank rather than guessing.
Add your trip details. Enter your arrival date, entry and exit points, purpose (tourism), and the hotel address in Vietnam. Choose single or multiple entry.
Review and pay. Check every field once more, then pay US$25 or US$50 by card. The fee cannot be refunded, so any typo costs you a fresh application.
Save your registration code. You will get a code and an email confirmation. You need this code to track the application.
Track the status. After 3 working days, use the lookup page on the same portal with your registration code and the details it asks for.
Download and print the e-visa. Once the status shows the visa is granted, download the PDF and check your name, passport number and dates. Carry a printed copy along with your passport.
When to apply: at least 10 working days before you fly. Avoid applying just before Vietnam's Lunar New Year holiday (late January or February), when processing pauses for about a week.

Common mistakes that delay or reject Indian applications
Using an agent website by mistake. Many sites look official and charge 2–4 times the government fee. Only evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn are official.
A poor photo. Selfies, shadows, spectacles or a coloured background are the most common reason for rejection.
Name in the wrong order. If your passport shows only a given name, follow the portal's instructions for a blank surname instead of repeating the name.
Wrong entry date. You cannot enter Vietnam before the date on your e-visa, so check it matches your flight.
Applying too late. Peak seasons and Vietnamese holidays can stretch processing to a week or more.
Where can you enter Vietnam with an e-visa?
The e-visa works at 83 entry points across Vietnam, including 17 international airports. The main ones for Indian travellers are Hanoi (Noi Bai), Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat), Da Nang, Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) and Phu Quoc. IndiGo and VietJet fly direct from Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Vietnam visa on arrival for Indians
Visa on arrival is only possible with an approval letter arranged through an agency before you fly. You then queue at the airport counter and pay the stamping fee in US dollar cash. For most Indian travellers, the e-visa is cheaper and faster.
Is Phu Quoc visa-free for Indians?
Yes, but with strict conditions. Indians can stay on Phu Quoc island for up to 30 days without a visa only if they fly directly to Phu Quoc from abroad, stay on the island the whole time, and leave Vietnam from Phu Quoc. A connection through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City does not count.
In April 2026, the Indian Embassy in Hanoi advised travellers to get an e-visa even for Phu Quoc-only trips. Without one, you cannot go to the mainland, even for a medical emergency. For a US$25 fee, it is worth having.
