An 11-day escorted journey through Egypt, from the Old Kingdom pyramid fields south of Cairo to the temples of Nubia and the Red Sea coast. The route takes in Sakkara, Memphis and Dahshur, the Giza Plateau and the Grand Egyptian Museum, an overnight sleeper train to Aswan, a dawn road excursion south to Abu Simbel, and three nights on a 5-star Nile cruise sailing Aswan to Luxor via Kom Ombo and Edfu. It continues with the Valley of the Kings on Luxor’s West Bank, two all-inclusive beach days at Hurghada, and a return to Cairo for Coptic Cairo, the Citadel, and Khan El-Khalili, with a full-day excursion to Alexandria before departure.

The necropolis of Sakkara, about 45 minutes south of Cairo, centred on the Step Pyramid of Djoser - the world's oldest monumental stone structure, built around 2670 BC by the architect Imhotep.
The site of Egypt's Old Kingdom capital, now an open-air museum whose centrepiece is the colossal fallen limestone statue of Ramses II, displayed lying down in its own pavilion.
Two pyramids built by Sneferu: the Bent Pyramid, whose angle changes partway up, and the Red Pyramid, the first successful true smooth-sided pyramid. Far quieter than Giza, with interior descent possible at the Red Pyramid.
Return drive to Cairo for the overnight stay.
