This combined journey links two of the Balkans' most striking countries in a single overland circuit. Beginning in Tirana, the route threads through Albania's mountain stronghold of Kruja, the UNESCO-listed hillside towns of Berat and Gjirokastra, and the turquoise coves of Ksamil and Butrint on the Ionian coast. A dramatic coastal drive over the Llogara Pass carries travellers across the border into Montenegro, where the fjord-like walls of the Bay of Kotor, the baroque town of Perast, the cliff-set Ostrog Monastery and the high country of Durmitor National Park take over. The tour closes with a short orientation of Podgorica before departure — two countries, two coastlines and one mountain interior, without retracing a single stretch of road.
Tirana's Skanderbeg Square, Bunk'Art 2, and a cable car ride up Mount Dajti at golden hour
Kruja's Old Bazaar and Skanderbeg Castle, plus the Roman Amphitheatre at Durrës
The UNESCO-listed "Town of a Thousand Windows" — Berat — and the stone city of Gjirokastra
Butrint's layered ruins, the sapphire Blue Eye spring, and the turquoise coves of Ksamil
The Albanian Riviera and the Llogara Pass, crossing overland into Montenegro
Kotor Old Town and a boat crossing to Our Lady of the Rocks at Perast
The Njegoš Mausoleum in Lovćen National Park, the royal capital of Cetinje, and Sveti Stefan
Ostrog Monastery, built into a sheer cliff, and the Đurđevića Tara Bridge over Europe's deepest canyon
